The credit crunch appears to be having serious effects in Britain. Lifestyle changes, poor diet and lack of exercise, can have people's blood pressure. Many people are worrying more about spiralling food and fuel prices, home loan repayments.

「金融引き締め」政策によりイギリスでは食費やフィットネス代が節約されている。偏食や運動不足の結果、高血圧症を引き起こす可能性がある。さらに物価の上昇、住宅ローンの返済等によるストレスのため様々な症状が訴えられている。

投機マネー

大地震後一時、一ドルが76円台になった。投機マネーによる急激な円高が進んだようだけど、協調介入によりひとまず歯止めがかかった。小麦などの食物に続き「大災害」をも食い物にする一部の投資家たち。絶対に許せない！

貧困

12月はグアテマラでもパーティーが多いが日本のような新年会はあまりないらしい。「プライベートレッスンのみの学校なので普段は他の先生と話す機会があまりない。生徒とのパーティとは別に先生同士のパーティーがある。」と言っていた。

ユネスコの無形文化遺産に「フランス料理」が登録される。他に「メキシコの伝統料理」、「地中海料理」などがある。将来「日本料理」も登録されといいなぁ。

今日のお茶はレモンマートルティー。レモンよりレモンらしい香り広がり、抗菌作用などの効果がある。酸味はないのでレモン果汁を加えた。

コレラ感染拡大

今日のレッスン　Spread of cholera infection
ハイチではコレラの感染拡大が止まらない。感染者は16,799人に達した。住民の間では国連平和維持活動(PKO)がコレラの発生源*だと疑っている。11月上旬の洪水が発生して以来、コレラはより広がりやすい状況になった。

Haiti has not seen a cholera outbreak for 100 years, many people are frightened by the news of the outbreak.

Poor sanitary conditions*1 make the camps and slums vulnerable to cholera*2, which is caused by bacteria transmitted through contaminated water or food.

Cholera causes diarrhoea and vomiting, leading to severe dehydration, but can kill quickly. It is easily treated through rehydration and antibiotics*3.

国際ケア機構（CARE International federation)は、援助物資としてアメリカ国内における余剰食糧や非食料品を梱包し「ケア・パッケージ」としてヨーロッパへ送っていた。
現在は「ケア・パッケージ」の送付事業は廃止。 長期的な医療・教育の普及活動や緊急的な災害地域への援助などを中心としている。

2010年1月ハイチでマグニチュード7の地震が起こった。災害としてはスマトラ島沖地震に匹敵する大規模なものとなった。G7では深刻な被害*serious damageを受けたハイチの債務を免除する必要があると合意した。

カトリック教徒(católico)が多い南米(Sudamérica)でも中絶が絶えない。南米で人工中絶が合法的な(legal)国は、キューバ、ギアナ、メキシコだけとあった。

日本は1948年以降中絶は合法的になり、先進国(país avanzado)の中で日本は中絶率(los índices de aborto)が高いほう。日本人の年間死亡原因は癌(cáncer)や自殺(suicido)に続いて中絶だという情報もあった。

今日はちょっとヘビーな内容。グアテマラではよく話題に上がるらしい。

イラン核開発問題

Ahmadinejad: Iran has 'fully mastered' nuclear technology

Iran announced Friday it has advanced its nuclear technology, unveiling new, faster centrifuges and celebrating "giant steps" forward.

In a speech celebrating National Nuclear Day, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad slammed "selfish behavior" by "arrogant" countries that have tried to negotiate a halt to Iran's nuclear activity. As he spoke, a crowd chanted "God is great" and "Death to America."

"Today, Iranian scientists and experts have fully mastered the nuclear and have been taking giant steps and moving at full pace towards meeting all domestic needs and making proper use of home-grown potential in the field of nuclear energy," Ahmadinejad said.Officials unveiled what they called a "third generation" of centrifuges six times faster than the ones currently being used.

イラン側は自前で燃料を製造するとして、核兵器への転用を疑う国際社会の反発を受けている。イランには濃縮技術はあっても、燃料棒の成形技術はないとみられる。

イランは北朝鮮産のウラン原料を密輸したと言われている。怖いなぁ。核兵器がテロの手に渡ったらどうなるんだろう・・

中国貿易赤字

China reports rare trade deficit

China has recorded its first monthly trade deficit in almost six years. The growth in imports was due to the huge amounts of crude oil etc. that were needed to power the Chinese economy. Prices for these raw materials have been rising steadily. The Chinese government expects that its international trade account will show a surplus again.

中国貿易収支は6年ぶりに赤字。内需拡大によって原油などの輸入量が増加しさらに価格も上昇した。中国は再び黒字国になることを期待する。

今や中国経済は世界中に影響を与えるので抑えておかないといけない。
