今日のレッスン　ヒト免疫不全ウイルス

ヒト免疫不全ウイルス（Human Immunodeficiency Virus）は、人の免疫細胞に感染した後破壊し、最終的にAIDSを発症させるウイルス。サル免疫不全ウイルスが、突然変異によってヒトへの感染性を獲得したと考えられている。

非常に変異しやすいウイルスであり、多種多様な型がある。ワクチンを作成する事に成功したとしても、すぐに変異ウイルスが出現してしまう。ワクチン作成は非常に困難である。

Having AIDS means that the virus has weakened the immune system to the point at which the body has a difficult time fighting infections. When someone has one or more of these infections and a low number of T cells, he or she has AIDS.

HIV is a fragile virus. It cannot live for very long outside the body. As a result, the virus is not transmitted through day-to-day activities such as shaking hands, hugging, or a casual kiss.
